Handling the Pyramid Objection as you Recruit for Your Network Marketing Business

Years ago having a good paying job seemed to be the ticket to success. Let's face it, isn't it nice to have someone matching your retirement plan money and paying for your family's insurance premiums? Absolutely. Unfortunately, the landscape has changed dramatically. With horror stories like Enron and Worldcom many hard working people lost their jobs and their pensions. The job market is simply not the same. That is why so many people have investigated network marketing. MLM's give people options that corporate america simply can't give. Here is an interesting conversation that picqued my interest.

A while back a new prospect was voicing a concern to me about working in the network marketing industry. He stated that he did not want to become involved in a pyramid scheme. Of course, that statement confirmed ignorance to the actual facts about MLM businesses. Unfortunately, this perception is quite common as I am sure you are aware. I decided to give this particular prospect a more detailed answer than I would normally give in this circumstance. The reason...he didn't come across as a cynic. Skeptics are fine, because a skeptical person will be open to valid arguments. A cynic won't. I simply choose not to deal with cynics anymore and neither should you.

Let's get back to handling the objection. MLM's are not illegal pyramids because the definition of an illegal pyramid is a business in which there are no products or services traded for money. So, for example, the old chain letters that we all have heard about would be an illegal pyramid. After discussing this concept for a few minutes I went on further.... I asked him if he ever saw a copy of his family tree or a chart of the food groups. How about the food chain comprised of the feeding habits of various animals. Aren't these all in the shape of a pyramid? He replied, yes. In fact, the pyramid is one of the strongest geometrical shapes. I then asked him a question. Did he ever see a schematic of a corporate organization? He didn't see where I was going with this. So, I drew a picture of a pyramid. I asked him, in the corporate world who would be at the top of the pyramid? He replied, the CEO of course. Now how about on this second level? He said, there would be a few vice presidents, perhaps. And, how about on this third level? He stated..Probably a few managers. And on we went, down to the last level which was comprised of secretaries who work for secretaries and receptionists. He asked me what was my point.
Here is where it got interesting...

I circled one of the manager positions and asked him the following...Let's say one of the manager positions opened up. Perhaps a manager retired or got fired. Now let's say three people below the manager level were qualified to apply for the manager position. How many of those three applicants would get the job. My new prospect said, one, of course. So you mean that two people would lose? He agreed.

I asked him... Did you notice the shape of this corporate organization? He said yes, it looks like a pyramid. I then asked him one last question. Do you think for a minute that any of the secretaries have a chance to be the CEO of the business? He said absolutely not. Well, then, you need to take a really good look at network marketing, because in our "pyramid" everyone can literally be the CEO of their own business. And you know what else.. Remember when that manager position became available in the corporate example? In network marketing, all three applicants can reach that level if they choose!

The new prospect looked at me in a totally different light. He finally understood why network marketing is so compelling to many people.

Article Marketing is Exceeding my Expectations!

I haven't been to my blog in a few days. However, I can assure you I have been working hard, in between my busy office and preparation for Christmas. I have written 9 different articles for the Ezine Article directory the last week and have noticed quite a number of new prospects clicking on my links for more information. Most of my articles have been on various topics in the network marketing industry. From the emotions of the business to pragmatic ways of building your business. Lightyear Alliance Attracts Young and Old

As I look over my Lightyear business, I am pleased that my organization is comprised of young and old. At first, I thought it would only attract younger reps because the business focused on all the communication services. In case you are not aware, LY offers local and long distance service, cell phone service and phones, internet access, satellite TV (both dish and directv), international calling cards, VOIP service (in house), video phones, and home security systems. As I look over my group there is a 55/45 split, young to old. I guess what it proves is all people desire to save money on their communication services as well as have the opportunity to make additional income. Network Marketing is a Business of Leverage. Have You Created Leverage in Your Business? Here's How

Network marketers always tout one of the great advantages of the industry is the concept of leverage. By following the MLM business model you will not only benefit from your efforts, but also by the efforts of others.. Or so goes the theory. In my experience duplication (or leverage) is hard to come by for the majority of those in your organization. The reason-so many business associates market their businesses the wrong way.

In many of my articles I mention the concept of rejection as a main deterent to building the business of new representatives. This occurs because the new representative struggles to find and then effectively communicate the benefits of network marketing. Time and time again I have attempted to urge network marketers to strive to have interested people contact them instead. Yes, it does take a shift in thinking. A change in strategy. And yes, an online presence.
Recently, I was playing golf with a bunch of friends. Besides shooting 78, and really enjoying a great day in the beautiful south Florida weather, I got a welcome surprise when I was finished. (although I must admit, it is not a surprise anymore!) As I turned on my cell phone I received a few email notices. While I was golfing, three people clicked my links on the internet. Two people became prospects asking for more information, while the other joined my organization! Not bad for four hours on the golf course.

Yet, I still see people contacting people who don't necessarily have ANY interest in hearing what you are doing. But, for a free lunch or a cup of Starbucks coffee they will humor you by going to your "business meeting" with you. Talk about a waste of money and time, not to mention the emotional baggage it creates.

Living the Golden Rule

Well, last night Power Prospect System had a great basic training call, as always. No matter how much knowledge you can have on a subject, it always amazes me that you can always pick up a little tweak here or a little tweak there that helps you promote and build your business. It's nice to know that there are people out there who truly want to help you. They understand that what goes around comes around. They keep giving and giving. The Golden Rule personified.

I am hard working, in everything I do. It's nice to work with and be trained by people who have the same work ethic and vision. They realize that the more they help others, the more good things come to them. Always there to help and advise. I guess in this season of giving, Power Prospecting System is showing the way.

Recently, I witnessed a conversation between two network marketers. They were discussing various aspects of the business. One of the gentleman was a young, take-action type of guy. No messing around with him. If you pointed him in a direction and told him to run, he would run. Finally, the young network marketer asked the guru, "What is the ONE traffic generating strategy that should be used to build a big organization and make serious money?" What is the use of growing a huge business if it isn't stable? That is exactly what I wanted to here, said the marketing guru. Let me explain something to you. If you go online you will see ebook after ebook touting a method that is the creme de la creme of marketing strategies. Take any concept you can think of and there will be an ebook explaining how that particular concept is the absolute best way to build your business. Many of these concepts actually work. But, once you try one and stick to it you will learn quickly they don't work to the degree you expected. You better not quit your day job.

Lead The Field In Your Network Marketing Business By Leaving Your Emotions On The Sidelines

Earl Nightingale is known for his powerful training courses on how to excel in business and in life. In one of his courses he says..."if you want to live an ordinary life and be ordinary, look around you and do what THEY do, but if you want to live a life less ordinary observe their actions and then go out and do the exact opposite."

Powerful words, won't you agree? Well, thinking about it, since you are already subscribing to the business model called network marketing you have already started doing what Mr. Nightingale recommends..I commend you for your actions. However, to really get the full meaning of his words, you need to evaluate them even deeper. Why is that?
There is a 95% failure rate in network marketing. That's why. Just by being in network marketing, doing what others dare NOT do doesn't guarantee your success. However, if you take Mr. Nightingale's message deeper, you can figure out the next step.

Isn't it true that most network marketers, once taking the initial step, fall back into the same programmed mindset they had prior to their entry? You see, when you start working in the network marketing field you are thinking outside the box. You must continue to do so. Take a look at what most network marketers do and then do the exact opposite. For quite some time, I didn't get it. I continued doing all the things my upline told me to do..Make the list, go to the Thursday night meeting. Make sure I bring my guest with me. The list goes on. I had success, but not the massive success I was looking for.

It wasn't until I took a VERY close look at what those who failed did, or rather didn't do, that the answer came to me. I had to do things that took away emotions. I needed to get rid of frustration, rejection, and disappointment in order to go forward in a big way. I stopped approaching my friends and relatives, especially when I was new in the business. That prevented all of the mentioned emotions because I didn't give those who meant a lot to me the opportunity to say no, at least not in the beginning. But that lead to another dilemma. Where do I find prospects?

So, I searched for other ways of finding people. I went the "pay for great leads" direction, spent a bunch of money for leads that turned out to be generic, lousy, get off the phone quickly, type leads. I realized that wasn't going to work. Finally, I found a system that helps me get unlimited targeted leads that actually contact me to learn more about my business. And, now the emotions are simply not there any more...

"How to Create Massive Value For What You Have in Network Marketing."

Dollars follow value, pure and simple. Flower it up any way you like. The bottom line to success is you must show your propective associates or customers value for what they are purchasing. If you can do that effectively, you will have success beyond your wildest dreams.

Typically people don't have money problems, they have a value creation problem. If the principle that money follows value is true, then it is a simple concept to understand that if you can find a way to increase value in what you have to offer, then the dollars will follow. This is especially true in network marketing.

Old school network marketing is hardly duplicatable. Sure, many people still have success building a list, showing the products and business plan and then signing up reps. Unfortunately, a few things happen along the way that can derail a person's success. Namely, running out of leads, running out of money to promote the business, or dealing with the inevitable rejection that is prevalent in the industry.

In order to minimize these negatives, how can you increase your value to those prospects? Find a way to show your prospects how they can address these issues effectively, and you have created massive value in the eyes of your prospects. Most people dislike approaching their friends and relatives about a business or in an attempt to sell them something. It just goes against the grain. Even those people who find success building their business in this manner, still will admit to you that they don't like it. So, find a way to help people minimize this activity and you have created value for them.

How about the money issue? It cost money to advertise, buy cd's and meet people at Starbuck's for business presentations. If you could show your prospects a way to have their marketing dollars produce more marketing dollars so that their advertising would actually pay for itself, would that create value for them as well? You bet.

And lastly, if you could find a way to help people avoid be rejected would that be valuable as well?

Network marketing gives all of us an opportunity to change the lives of our families. It allows us to take control of our finances. But only, if we are able to market ourselves in an effective and stress free manner. Show your prospects a plan to do that and you have created so much value that money takes a back seat.

"If You Are Going To Work In the MLM Industry, Think Big To Maximize Your Success"

If you enter a network marketing company only wanting a few hundred dollars a month you are doomed to failure. I would recommend that you don't even bother getting involved. You are setting yourself up for failure. Why would I say that? Because over the years I have seen too many people who try this strategy fail, and fail miserably. In fact, I will venture to say I have NEVER seen someone become ultra successful in any endeavor just wanting a minimum return.

Action is what it takes to be successful in business. We all know that. However, it is not just action, it is massive action. If you visualize a few hundred dollars per month, is that going to stimulate massive action? I seriously doubt it. When I speak with new prospects who tell me they want just a small amount each month, I have learned to tell them it would be better for them to simply get a second job. There are a few reasons I do this. The main one is because this type of prospect will have to be pulled along to do every action step needed for success. The last thing any network marketer should want is a person who has no dream or desire to compel them to act. Let's be sure about something here. This type of attitude does not , in any way make this type of prospect a bad person. It simply shows me that they are not the type of person I choose to work with. Additionally, if you know there is a great chance they will fail, why help them along that path?

The best strategy for you to be successful is to think about, dream about, and plan for what you want most. And in a big way! Not simply making the car payment. Why is this so important?

Because small thinkers limit themselves by placing their self imposed ceilings on their success. More importantly, they put their mind in a place where they miss opportunities because they are not even looking for them. Half the battle is simply not believing in limitation in the first place. Think about a small child. The child wants something from his mommy. That child will cry, fidget, and do whatever he or she can to get the mom's attention so that the child can get what is wanted. They even have a sixth sense to know when is the most opportune time to ask for it. Has your child ever asked you for something when you were on the telephone? Of course! They all do. They realize that when your mind is not totally on them, they have a better chance for success. Or maybe, the very young children will cry and scream until they get what they want. A lot of new parents fall for that one, and the child succeeds.

You see, the child doesn't have any limited thinking. The child simply knows they want something and will do anything and everything to get it. Start acting like a child. Start doing things in a massive way and watch your business grow. Dare to be different. Do things outside the box and you will give yourself the opportunity to have success to a level you couldn't even imagine.

"How You Can Write Compelling Pay Per Click Ads on Google to Generate Massive Leads for Your MLM Business!"

In order to make your Pay Per Click campaign work you must grab the attention of your prospective business partners and customers. How do you do that? Take a look at the majority of ads on Google and if you are like me, you say, BORING! You Must write an ad that incorporates the following emotional issues...Namely, the benefits of taking action, pain avoidance, curiosity, and are they missing out on something compelling? If you fail to utilize AT LEAST two of these, your ads will be ineffective.

Let's talk about each one of these. Benefits. Is it enough to state a simple concept like...Make Money Online? Ask yourself the question, would you respond to an ad like that? I didn't think so. Neither would I. The statement, while a benefit, is simply too generic. How about Pain Avoidance? Is it enough to say, don't be scammed or don't lose your chance to make money? The answer is NO. Again, it is not specific enough. Are They Missing Out? This is similar to Pain Avoidance but you must state in an intriguing way that your prospective business associate or customer must act in order to avoid suffering the consequences of inaction. How About Curiosity? In most cases generic statement do not ilicit curiosity in most people. Why not try this instead...

Use the strategy of writing ads for a specific individual and you will have better success than writing an ad that appeals to large groups of people. If you remember this concept your ad campaigns will be much more productive. Why is this true? Would you agree that it is an individual who is reading your ad? So, wouldn't it be prudent to write an ad that an individual would be attracted to? You see, if you try to appeal to the masses, you have to be so generic that no individual will find your ad compelling.

Let's look at a few examples... How are these headlines? Secret of MLM Success? or Secret to Massive Lead Generation ? Here is the description- How to Recruit Prospects at the Push of a Button and Generate Endless Free leads. " Is this ad written for an individual or for the masses? Does the ad give you the idea that there is a benefit to what is offered? Does it create curiosity? Pain Avoidance? Would you feel like you were missing out on something if you didn't take action? For me, I think this ad meets three of the four criteria. Can you think of a way to improve these titles even more?

What are the two most effective words to use in pay per click ads or ads for lead generation? Or for that matter, any advertisements? The word "free" and the word "you" head the list. If you can speak to the person directly, you hit an emotional cord more quickly and have a better chance for that person to take action. Look at the title of this article? Did the title create a benefit, curiosity, pain avoidance, and give you the feeling you might be missing out? The fact that you have read this far proves that this system works. Notice that I also made sure I addressed the issue directly to you! Let's compare the article's title to the title I used in my first draft...

"How To Write Compelling Pay Per Click Ads to Generate Leads for Your MLM Business! "

Not bad, but for my taste, this title did not connect with me on a deep enough level. Simply changing the ad to say How YOU can write compelling PPC ads, and then adding the word Massive to the title added a great benefit and a tremendous curiosity in my mind. Play with this concept. Experiment with different titles. See how they make YOU feel. If the title grabs your attention , it probably will grab someone else as well!

You Never Stop Learning

As long as I have been in business you never stop learning. It continues to amaze me. Just when you think you have it completely right, something comes up that takes your business to an even higher level!

Recently, I had the privilege of participating in a network marketing success training conference call. The normal give and take of ideas occurred as always. Nervous Newbies asking all the questions we all asked when we first got started. I loved the enthusiasm that was felt. The energy level was palpable even on the telephone. And then it happened....

A newbie asked a question in such a way, that got my mind thinking. Wait a minute, a completely different take on a subject. This could open up some new avenues that could be significant! Why didn't I think of that?

Now, in this forum, it would take too long to describe the specifics of this event. (Although, I would be happy to share this with anyone in my organization). The point of this post is to remind everyone (and myself) to always be on the lookout for fresh ideas. No matter what level of success you attain, do not be fooled into thinking you have all the answers. I am glad I have been reminded of this fact by important people in my life. And, lastly don't be afraid of trying a business strategy that at first blush, might seem contrary to your typical direction. MLM Rejection - Why Do You Experience It and What You Need to Do About It

Quite frankly, rejection is part of network marketing simply because we approach people who have no interest in what we have to offer. Think about this for a moment. Do grocery stores knock on your door trying to sell you a loaf of bread? Of course not! Why? Well, let's discount the ridiculous nature of this scenario, but let's get to the point. You may or may not be interested in buying the loaf of bread at that moment. If you had just come back from the grocery store and purchased a few loaves of bread you are probably NOT interested in buying any more. Or perhaps you just don't like that brand of bread.

The same can be said of money making opportunities. Does the prospect you approach have a keen interest in making more money? Obviously, unless you know the person very well, you have no idea what their desires and goals are. Even though most people will say they want to make more income, many people don't want to work for it. So, look at this scenario..not only are you unsure IF they want to make more money, you don't know if they want to make more money NOW or if they are willing to expend any effort to get it! Many years ago one of my upline associates taught me the three foot rule. This rule helped me experience a great deal of rejection and embarrassment. It goes something like this...anyone within three feet of you is a prospective business partner. How inane is that? Talk about setting yourself up for rejection. And, people wonder why so many network marketers quit.

What Type of Online Presence Do You Want?

There are many ways to get your products or services noticed online. The type that you choose is determined by several factors. Namely, how fast do you want your services noticed and how much are you willing to spend marketing yourself.

For example, you can have several pay per click campaigns in google to gain the attention of potential customers or business partners. Of course, this will cost money, not necessarily a lot, but you need to know what you are doing.

You can write articles that talk about things you know about. These articles can then give the reader the opportunity to find out more about what services you offer.

Another method is building an optimized website. This has a cost to it, as well as the time to build it. In the long term, an optimized website is a valuable asset to have as you can pull everything you offer into one central location. However, this is not something that predictably will give you immediate return on investment simply because it takes time to build it. You can set up a blog just like this one. To me, a blog is a vehicle in which I can share my thoughts frequently throughout the month. As you may have noticed, sometimes I talk about family, business, or specific ideas that I want to share with you. By "pinging" the blog, other blogs get access to your blog. Over time it is another way of getting noticed.

If you like to write on a consistent basis, start a monthly newsletter. As you get more and more emails from people interested in what you are offering (through other sources), these emails could be the starting point for a newsletter campaign.

Two Days Off In A Row, Remarkable!

It is not very often that I get two days off during the week. It was kind of strange not going to the office today. But, it was a nice change of pace. Even as I was enjoying the day I still had some ideas for promoting my online business. One never knows when inspiration or ideas might come from. The key to success is to act on those inspirations.

One of the most important aspects of the success of a business is to have more than one income source. This is especially true in the online marketing world. Let's use this example..If you were receiving $10,000 per month from your online business, would you rather have one $10,000 check from one source or ten checks of $1,000 from ten different sources? Of course, the ten sources would be more beneficial because if one source dried up, you would still have nine productive areas. Why do I bring this up at this moment? Well, I have successfully incorporated multiple income streams in my online business. I have successful pay per click campaigns, have multiple e books that are very popular, and have been consistent in my article marketing. However, I realized that I was only using one article directory. After thinking about it, there are at least four or five top notch article directories online. Why not put my articles in multiple areas to maximize their effectiveness?

Well, that is my inspiration today. And, I decided to act on it. It will probably take me a few days to transfer all of my articles into the other directories before starting on new articles. But after thinking about this project, in the long term I know that this will be extremely advantageous to my online business. Now That You Have an Opt-In Page What Next?

In my last post I discussed the necessity of Opt-In pages. They are critical to your success because you MUST know who is responding to your marketing efforts. What good is it if you promote your business and don't know IF anyone is seeing it, and IF anyone is interested. A person who gives you their contact information is literally raising his/her hand and saying to you....I am interested!

That's a far cry from cold calling isn't it?


Once you have this new lead what next? The obvious answer is you must contact that person to see how much interest is there. Here is where you can make a choice....

Old School Network Marketing.... call them, set up an appointment to speak with them, deal with no shows and no thank you's, sign up a few who are really interested.

OR

21st Century Network Marketing... have an automated email system that sends the new prospects multiple emails over the course of time to continue to introduce you and your information/products, etc. to them.

This email system should be automated because as you promote your online business, you WILL have so many contacts that you don't want to be doing this step manually.

The biggest argument I get with this strategy is that you will get a higher percentage of people who join IF you call them rather than simply email them. I don't disagree with this statement. HOWEVER, I have found that people who see the big picture, see the vision, whatever...will join no matter how you contact them. And, the percentage of people who join because I called them, is not a big enough difference to warrant the time and effort it takes to call all the leads that I get!

Everyone has to make this decision for themselves. For me, the pictures of my family that you see on this blog are reasons for me to make this system as automated as possible. The Value and Necessity of Opt-in Pages When Marketing Online

The next time you are browsing the internet, google any topic you desire. Notice the ads above and to the right of the web page listings. These are commonly known as Pay Per Click Ads. Business owners write ads to attract your interest to their site in the hope of having you become a customer of their products or services. Each time you click on their ad, the business owner pays Google an agreed upon amount for the opportunity to earn your business.

Notice the type of page you are sent to. This is commonly known as a landing page. If the landing page asks you for your email address and your name you can be sure that this business owner knows what he is doing. The business owner is using what is commonly known as an opt-in page.

Can you guess the benefits this page offers you as an advertiser? Let's reveal just a few...
Would it be of value to you to know how many potential customers were interested in your products? Imagine that you were running various ads for the same product or service. Can you see that the number of visitors you had to each ad would give you valuable information as to what type of wording works best for future ad campaigns?

Would there be value for you to have an ever expanding mailing list? Think about it...every time someone "opts in" you have another person who has shown interest in your product or service. In the future you would be able to send additional information to these people to give them the opportunity to become your customer.

Another benefit would be to simply determine IF your product or service is sellable. If there are very few clicks to your opt in page, it could mean that people are simply not interested in what you are selling. So the next time you market your products or services online, don't forget to use an opt-in page as your landing page for optimal tracking of the efficiency of your ad campaign.

The scenario is pretty standard. A friend of yours calls you and asks you if you have an interest in taking a look at a business he finds very exciting. Maybe he even asks you if you are satisfied with your current income level. If you're like most people, the answer is always the same. Of course you can use extra money. Where do you find highly motivated, raging business builders? Especially after your warm market runs out? Do you buy leads from a lead generation company? How do you think that will go? What Approaches are Effective in Network Marketing?

Approaching prospects is an important aspect of your network marketing business. Prospects are the life blood of your business. So, when you have the opportunity how are you going to accomplish this important task?

Each prospect has their own reason as to why they choose to build a network marketing business. In order to have the best possible outcome you need to understand what is important to your prospect. This will determine the type of approach and follow up you will utilize. Will you approach them on the telephone, in person, or over the internet? Will you be approaching people you know or strangers?

Let's review the types of prospects you will meet with a few possible scripts that have proven effective. There are four categories that will effectively describe most prospects. They are as follows... a person in dire financial straits who may not have a job or is so far in debt that they need money immediately; a person who is happy with their job, but realizes additional income would be beneficial; a business person who always looks for additional income sources that make sense; and a wealthy person who is looking for an new challenge.

Here are approaches that have proven effective...
"Do you ever look at other ways of making income over and above what you are currently making right now? " I find that this is a solid generalized script for approaching prospects because it asks a simple yet direct question. Does the prospect want to make money in addition to their current job? Or, does the successful business person look into other business ventures? (Quick note: refrain from using the term "business opportunity". Instead use "business venture" or "business project" as a term that will invoke a positive response from business orientated people). Most prospects will say yes to this approach. It is then your job to set up an appointment with them so that you can give them the details of your business. A typical response to this approach will be "that would depend on what type of business you are talking about." Your response to this question is very critical because it will determine who has control of this business encounter. I have found that redirecting the question can be effective. I would say something like this...

"I understand your concern for the type of business I am talking about. However, the only purpose of my question to you is to find out if you have a compelling interest to generate additional income. If the answer is yes, I would be happy to set up an appointment in which I would answer all your questions in great detail. So, I will ask again...Do you ever look at other ways of making income over and above what your are currently doing? "

Don't be intimidated by the prospect's questions because YOU have something that is valuable for them. IF you decide to explain the business to the prospect at that time you have lost lost control as well as the prospect in probably 99% of the cases. Think about it....If it takes you 30 minutes to explain the business sufficiently, how could you possibly explain the business to a prospect in three minutes. If a prospect refuses to make the appointment , then take the opportunity away from them. You are under no obligation to work with everyone. Pick and choose your business associates.

A prospect may be in dire financial straits and is in need of income immediately. This particular lead may not be your best prospect at least in the short term. Unfortunately, a person who is in this situation tends to be very enthusiastic because of their tremendous need. Unless your business pays new associates a large immediate income as compared to the entry fee, this prospect will not be a good candidate for your MLM company. Whenever I see this type of enthusiasm I will ask questions like..."It's great that you have excitement for additional income. What would that additional income do for you? " You will immediately find out the status of their finances by their answers.

For those prospects who you know, and from your prospective, you feel that they are a bit above you in the financial food chain, you can use a tried and true approach that works if you are sincere when asking...."I recently became aware of a business venture that upon initial investigation shows great promise. I greatly value your opinion in business matters. Would you help me by taking a look at the details and giving my your take on it?"

When approaching someone who is obviously very wealthy here is an approach that can grab their attention. "Recently I had the good fortune of learning about a profitable business venture. Do you ever look at other challenges or projects that can be very lucrative?" Remember, even wealthy people like to make more money. However, many prefer to think of the challenge of the project as the main excitement with the overall income that can be generated as a secondary benefit.

Another type of approach is the use of electronic media. To have an online presence is equally as important as the approaches cited above. The value of online approaches resides in the fact that there is minimal rejection and less stress. By utilizing Google advertising, article marketing, and newsletter marketing to name a few, the prospects are responding to your information and contacting you, rather than you making the approach. This is a much better targeted prospect because they have shown interest by taking an action step.. ie responding to your ad or article. Is Network Marketing Really Duplicatable?

Do you remember the first time someone approached you with a network marketing opportunity? What was one of the main selling points of the business model? If you learned as I did the best part of the business was that it was duplicatable. The concept seemed simple enough. Teach people to do what you are doing for your success. Do you see the problem with that concept? Let's discuss it...

Everyone I know is different. People speak differently, they come from different backgrounds, they have different social and economic experiences. They even have different personalities. So tell me, how is a gregarious, fun loving individual going to teach an introvert to approach people and share a business concept with someone. The answer is..they can't.

If you look at the latest statistics you will see literally millions of people who have an interest to do more with their lives, especially when it comes to economics. People simply want to make more money. That is what the attraction to network marketing is all about. Think about this for a second...for a relatively low entry fee a person can start up a business in which he or she can make some serious money.

The problem, of course, if you continue to look at the statistics, is that 95% of all network marketers just scratch the surface of their potential and eventually drop out. Why is that? I believe it is a very simple concept. People are trying to teach other people to duplicate actions and attitudes that they are not programmed to do. Pure and simple.

Is Getting Rid Of Your J.O.B. Really Possible or Is It a Hoax?

Over the past few years I have had the pleasure of working with many different types of people in the network marketing industry. In many cases they have been a pleasure to work with, especially once I told them the real scoop about our industry.

I get a kick out of people who belittle others for having a J. O. B. Isn't that the joke your uplines talk about when referring to those who have "traditional jobs or businesses? "So, when are you going to put more time into your network marketing company?" Just because your lousy "JOB" pays you consistent money every week that happens to pay your mortgage, health insurance, and puts food on the table for your family should not be a reason to keep working. After all, your upline has promised you that you will make bundles of money. If I am doing this full time, why can't you, they will say? I have heard this conversation too many times.

At times I laugh at it, but you know what, perhaps I should cry when I hear it. What most people don't realize is that some of the very large producers in network marketing have built downlines over many years and typically with a few companies. Or, a full time network marketer may have had great success in a traditional business, decided to sell it and now lives off of the profits from that company. In either of these two scenarios it would be very easy to put all your efforts into network marketing.

Even having said this, network marketing is still a great industry. For the last 12 years or so, a major IVY league school has been teaching network marketing in their MBA program. Talk about coming a long way! The bottom line is this. You can get rid of your "JOB" at some point, providing you put in the time and effort in this industry to build up a sizeable RESIDUAL INCOME.

Don't be fooled by the great bonuses you can get every time you sponsor someone. Especially as you grow in a particular company, the money paid out can be very significant. While this is a great position to be in....LISTEN UP... It is still a "JOB!" UNTIL your residual income is enough to support your family. But that's ok.

In my business, I make sure that the people in my business know that fact going in. What that does for them is two-fold... they trust me because I am telling them a real picture of what they are getting in to, and it creates a situation in which I have fewer drop outs because they are not fooled coming in. How else can you help your business associates? I also give my prospects and new reps the opportunity to learn about personal lead generation. A great way to avoid getting on the telephone! Think about it, how many people actually enjoy cold calling, or worse yet...calling their friends about their business? How would you like, instead, to have leads who YOU generate, contacting you for more information about your business? And on top of that, how would you like to make money even if these leads do not join your primary network marketing company? Well, with much research, I have found the way. It CAN be done. What it Takes to Be Successful

Do you have focus, energy, passion? How about organizational skills? Have you set goals for your business? Is the glass half full or half empty? How will you react to unforeseen obstacles? If you can answer these questions honestly you will be on your way to taking the first step for a successful business experience.

Have clear cut goals and expectations. But make sure your goals are realistic. If you are in a business that has a system of action steps, don't take short cuts. A short cut will guarantee a short circuit in your success. Put forth effort and don't expect someone else to do it for you. Study, learn and implement your plan of action. Once you have results, good or bad, re-evaluate. Did you follow the recommended steps? And if you did, why did you get your results.

This cycle of planning, implementing and re-evaluating will assure you that you will be efficient in building your business. Do not become emotional when evaluating the action steps you are taking. If something works, continue it, if not discard it.

Most of this information is not earth shaking. However, the business people who take this information to heart and stay the course will give themselves the best chance of success. Until next time...

This has been a fun week!

This week has been interesting. I usually have many different things to do. Between my office, home, my wife and kids I usually am very busy. I make sure that I spend time reviewing audio files on my MP3 player. I feel it is important to always learn something new, or at the very least reinforce what I already know. It is a great source of self motivation. The more I hear about my different businesses the more motivated I become to implement ideas that will continue my success. This week, however was a bit different...

A full week of baseball to be precise.. I am not talking about Major League Baseball. I am talking about Little League. From my office I found myself going to the baseball fields. My 11 year old son's team played in a tournament this week. I am one of the assistant coaches. We actually did very well, losing 4-2 in the semi-final game. There were 12 teams in the tournament from various towns. So, to finish 3rd overall was a good showing. It was a valuable experience for the boys, since in the fall league is used as an instructional league. Kids get to play in positions they may have not played before. To have the chance to perform under the pressure of a tournament gives them a chance to see how they have learned their lessons over the last two months.

Of course, I try to learn from the experience as well. The games, especially the last one, opened my eyes to basics concept for success. You see, during our last game we had a number of opportunities to score runs; a chance to put more pressure on the opponent. However, due to a few forgotten fundamentals, and more importantly a few incidents in which players didn't listen to their base coaches, we ran ourselves out of a few scoring chances. These lost opportunities cost us the game.

Think about your approach to business. Do you follow the rules, listen to those who have more knowledge than you, and give an honest, consistent effort? Do you put yourself in the best position to be successful. Learn from the little leaguers...Listen to your coaches and mentors. Don't try to re-invent the wheel. Follow the rules and enjoy the success it will bring. Until next time...

Has Today Been Productive For You?

To pick up on my last entry, what have you done to elevate your life in the last few days? Have you learned anything new to better your family life, spiritual life, or business life? How about physical activities?

My point is that each day you should have a goal to do something that is going to better some aspect of your life. I used to be a type AAA personality. I know, it is called "type A". Well, I was AAA. When I was in school I was called Dr. Adrenal because I was always hyper about something. It was usually something positive, but I always had to do something in a big way, and it had to be "right now".

Well, over the years I still am Type a, but not as intense as the lower case "a" would indicate. Make a commitment to do something beneficial every day. For example, if you work out today and get some good physical exercise for your body that is a great accomplishment. Equally as good would be to have 15-20 minutes of quiet time to refresh your mind and soul. Perhaps you took your son or daughter for an ice cream cone and had a few laughs. Perfect. Just what the doctor ordered.

As it relates to your business, you could do some of the following...Work on creating your website (a great link to create a professional looking website is found in this blog under the picture of my daughter and her favorite horse), or start a blog like this one on a topic you enjoy. Maybe you could call some of your leads to help grow your business, or touch base with a business associate to see how he is doing. The ideas are endless.

One thing is for sure...if you can successfully do something positive in at least one aspect of your life each day, you will look at yourself as a success and go to sleep with a smile on your face, looking forward to the challenges of tomorrow... Until next time..

What is Your Typical Day Like? Are You Too Busy?

As you see by the photos on this blog (more to come), you will quickly get a feel of how busy I am. Yet, why is it that many people say they are too busy to take part in your business? Maybe it is simply an excuse or a polite way to say no. What I have found is the most successful people have the most amount of things going on. However, they become masters of using their time wisely.

For example, let's look at my day, today. By the way, it is only 2pm. First thing in the morning, I did some spiritual reading. This reading could also be motivational reading, whatever your choice. But each one of us needs to fill our minds with something positive to get our day started correctly. Next, after a very light breakfast, I went to the gym to work out. While I don't work out every single day, as a physician I can attest to the necessity of physical activites that are NOT work related. Afterwards, I mapped out my goals for the rest of the day. Optimally, this should be listed on paper. However, at the very least you should have a very good idea of what you want to accomplish in your mind, AND in the order it needs to be done to be efficient.

Let's continue. On the way to the office, I made a few business phone calls, and also listened to a "how to " Cd. You can also substitute a motivational cd or something that will assist you in thinking properly. Look at all the time you spend driving. Your drive time could literally be a university on wheels if you decide to use the time wisely.

Once at the office, I did some paperwork and was also able to listen to a training session of ideas on how to help continue my success in my various businesses. And to finish the early part of the afternoon, I am writing this blog. Of course, this does not even include the patients I treat today. You might be saying, no way, that is impossible...Not really. With a wife and four children and all the activities that a dad does you become an expert at time management, as well as determining what are the most important things to do at a given moment. There are plenty of times in which I want to do something business orientated, but instead help my eleven year old with his grip on his fastball. Or, my 10 year old wants me to read to her. Or maybe, simply needs a hug. Perhaps my wife needs help with something in the home, or needs to talk with me.

The point is we are all very busy in our lives. Family, work, social, spiritual...you name it. Get better at time management and watch your business and the quality of your personal life explode!

When was the last time you purchased leads from an online company that claimed the leads were the best, most current, can't miss leads you could possibly imagine? Only to find out that either the lead's phone number was disconnected, the email was returned as undeliverable, or the prospect told you that you are the third person who has called. This is actually not as farfetched as is sounds. In fact, I would venture to say that this scenario is more common than we would like to admit.
Let's face it, one of the main negatives in the network marketing field is having to approach people. Yes, that is right. We actually have to talk to people. Rejection is not something any of us like. However, for those who are wanting to be successful in this industry it something we all have to face.
With the help of our business partners, we go through our list of warm market prospects. Some join, some don't. At some point our list runs out. Now what should we do?
Typically, someone in our upline will recommend that we purchase leads from a lead generation company. Going on line is an interesting experience because of all the claims made by each company. Let's understand something here...in many cases it cost lead generation companies quite a few dollars per lead to accrue what they consider large numbers of high quality leads. So, let me ask you the question... How can the lead company sell you a lead for $1.50-$4.00 per lead and generate a profit? Simple, they must sell to multiple customers. And even if the company states that they will only sell the lead to one person in one particular MLM, there is nothing that prevents them from selling to other opportunity seekers.
To avoid this situation, you have the option of generating your own leads. While it may tend to seem difficult to do, with a little effort and the proper training, the reward for generating your own leads are wonderful. Not only is it great to know that the lead is your own personal lead, but isn't it great to know that the lead contacted you! If you are serious about building your network marketing business, this system is a must.

Lead Generation:To Buy or Not to Buy

This is a question that comes up quite frequently. The normal sequence of events would be something like the following...A new business associate enters your business seeing the value of your products or services and has a compelling reason to want to produce additional income. This business associate, with your help, contacts people he knows. The business model is discussed including the details of what has to be done in order to grow the business. All is going well. As in most network marketing businesses, a percentage of those people who have an interest in hearing about the business get started. At some point in the very near future, your new business associate is going to run out of people in his warm market, people he knows.



What should he do. The easy answer is to purchase leads from one of the many lead generation companies. Not only will this add to the cost of running his business from an overhead standpoint, but it will inevitably cause your associate stess. Why? I can tell you from personal experience that leads from lead generation companies are not necessarily leads who will be joining your business. How many times I have called a lead only to find out that the phone number was disconnected, the email was returned undeliverable, or the prospect informed me that I was the 3rd or 4th person contacting him about a business opportunity.



Let's think about this for a moment. Companies are scouring the world for copious amounts of leads in order to sell them to you and I. The cost of this type of lead generation can be expensive for these companies. So, in order to turn a profit, they must sell these leads to mulitiple business owners. You may notice that many of the lead generation companies will tell you, in the fine print, that the leads are not sold only to you. Some companies may state that they will only sell the lead to one person in one particular network marketing company. Great, what is the benefit of having the person you are calling having already received 3 calls from three different companies pitching their benefits. It is a waste of money and time.



If you have an interest in procurring your own leads, then you have to have a way of generating leads that are yours and your alone. A system must be used. One that has been thought out in great detail. These systems don't have to be expensive in order to get great results. However, if you want to get an edge over a high percentage of people in this industry you must do things differently. Ask yourself if you are really looking to jump start your network marketing business. Do you want to take more control over who you talk to. "The Winning Formula for MLM Success"

The winning formula for success. Everyone wants to know it. Unfortunately, most of us make it too complicated. Ask yourself this question...are your activities being done to help you and you alone? Or, will your activities be helpful to those in your organization? Be careful, it is very easy to fool yourself on this one.

How many times over the years have you heard someone in the industry say they would not deal with a particular person because they refused to join their business, or worse yet, they quit the business. Why is it that everyone has to be in your organization in order to not be considered a fool?

Everyone has different attitudes and different needs at certain times of their lives. Perhaps a particular business partner is too stressed out or needs additional income over and above what he is making in his network marketing business. Perhaps he simply needs to have the comfort of a paycheck. Maybe this person's spouse needs this "safety net" as well. So be it. You will have many times in your career when a person you are sure would be great in the business says, no thank you. If you are gracious with them in that situation you may be pleasantly surprised months or years later. I have had situations just like that in my career. These people become major producers because they have decided that the business was right for them ON THEIR TERMS.

That is what I meant earlier when I asked the question...are your activities being done for you or for others? When you are congruent with others, when you are in synch with others you will find that your activities will not only be productive but the activities will be beneficial for your whole team. Do things from the heart... The old adage, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, is so true especially in the network marketing field. Stop the attitude. If someone wants what you have great, if not, great. One of my mentors once told me it is impossible to push a rope. I didn't get it for a long time. Finally, I understood that if I gently helped people along, pulling them along to the degree that they felt comfortable, great productivity ensued. If I had attempted to push them into doing things, it would just be like pushing a rope..Nothing happens!

Think about these concepts the next time you are working with someone. You will find if you are doing what is best for everyone, your results will give you great joy as well as financial success. Until next time...

"Which Products and Services Work Best in Network Marketing?"

I get asked this question all of the time. Let me ask you this...if you had $50 left in your wallet at the end of the month what would you pay...$50 worth of cosmetics, $50 worth of nutritional supplements, or $50 towards your cell phone bill or telephone service. If you are like most people you will pay your phone bill.. Why? Because we all have to communicate. Business doesn't get done unless you can talk to clients or customers. Understanding this fact will make a difference in what company you choose. You increase your opportunity for succsss by choosing a company that offers products or services that are necessity items.

In network marketing, the feedback I have received is people do not like autoship. For those who don't know what this is....Every month your company will ship to you products that you have pre ordered. The fees for those products will be charged to your credit card automatically. What happens if you don't need the products yet? Doesn't matter, in order to qualify for your monthly bonus, you must purchase x amount each and every month. At least that is how some network marketing companies operate.

I used to be involved in a number of these companies in the past. I quickly realized that the attrition rate of associates was at a high level because people simply did not want to overpay for products that they not only didn't want yet, but did not want to overpay for as well. After all, how is the upline going to get paid? Wouldn't you agree that it is hard to rationalize paying $5 for that "great" bar of soap when you can go to Walmart and buy 4 bars for a buck!

The best network marketing companies have addressed this subject strategically. First off, they offer services that each and every person ,whether in the business or not, can benefit from. For example... if you can save someone money on their telephone bill I am sure you will agree that this is a benefit for them. It is also obvious that the person will be paying that bill every single month. So, instead of autoshipping products to them, they are actually on an "autoship" program of service that they want and will pay for each and every month with no ill feelings. That is the type of programs I search for and have found. I am sure that there companies out there that offer this type of marketing strategy. I urge you to do your research and look for these types of recurring services that are offered to give yourself the best possible chance for success entering into the world of network marketing. "Which Business Works Best?"

In reality, there are only a few choices. As Robert Kiyosaki states in his book, "Cash Flow Quadrant", there are only four real choices...be an employee, own a business in which you run the show, own a business system that gives you leverage so that you make additional income off of other people's efforts, or be an investor of your own money. Most people do not have the knowledge or the bank account to succeed in the last quadrant. So, we won't discuss that arena.

The majority of people in this world live and die in the first quadrant. They work for a paycheck and benefits. Nothing wrong with that if you are happy having someone else tell you how much you will make and when you can take a day off.

The second quadrant, owning your own business, has its benefits as well. I have been in this quadrant for many years, running a practice. As a physician I have the ability to make a very good living. However, if I am not in my office treating patients, I do not earn income that day. Here is a case in point.

A while back I had a terrible injury to my right hand. It made practicing very difficult, and affected my ability to make a living. I knew, at that point, that I needed a Plan B or a safety net. I wasn't going to give up my practice, because I love what I do. However, I knew that an injury could happen at any time. I had to protect my family.

This is where the third quadrant comes into play. In today's world there are so many business opportunities out there. Everyone is touting their business as the best. In reality, I am happy they do so. Why would someone be in a business unless they thought it WAS the best? But here is where fact meets fiction. There are very specific issues that MUST be addressed when considering a business that gives you leverage. As the days and weeks continue I will be highlighting these issues to help you understand the thought process that makes a leveraged business work and give you my recommendations for businesses for you to consider.

Let me give you an example of a leveraged position that has caused some of my friends hardship... Let's say you are a real estate broker. For this example let's NOT bring the lousy real estate market into the equation for this discussion. As a broker you hire other real estate agents. You train them intensely, giving them all the tricks of the trade that you have learned over the years. They do well for you. This is a leveraged position. You are making income off of THEIR efforts as well as your own. Suddenly, they decide to leave your office and open up their own real estate office down the street. Not only have you lost leverage on your agent, but you have actually trained your competition!

To benefit from a true leveraged position you must be able to earn a percentage of your "agents" income without the risk of their efforts negatively affecting you in the future. For the past decade, network marketing has been taught at the Harvard Business School as a viable business model that works. The trick is considering the various options that a particular company gives you. For example, what product or service are they offering. Is is a product or service that is not only in demand, but is used unconsciously by the masses? What is the track record of the company? Is it finanically stable? What are the credentials of the CEO? Has he had successful experiences in the same field as the business you are considering? Does the company pay ALL people in the business a fair fee for their work? What about the back end...is their residual payment schedule one in which you can actually achieve? We will discuss these issues and more in future posts. Until next time...
